Universal Graphics JFC Group 2 Round 1 26/7/20
Drumhowan 0-7 Toome 0-10
In a scrappy affair Toome did enough to overcome last year’s beaten championship finalist Drumhowan at a well appointed St. Victor’s Park. Both teams were a little ring rusty as they played their first competitive game since last October.
Gary Wilson opened the scoring for Toome in the 3rd minute but then Drumhowan replied with three unanswered points from the boots of Aiden Quinn and Enda Duffy from placed balls while Kevin Mooney kicked the first of his two points from play. Indeed Kevin was the only scorer from play for Drumhowan – part of their problem. Frank Connolly kicked his first of 4 points to leave the score 0-3 to 0-2 in favour of Drumhowan when referee Ciaran Mulligan signalled the first water break of the game. Indeed after this break Toome had a purple patch when they scored 3 points in quick succession to go 2 ahead. Kevin Mooney pulled one back and Aiden Quinn levelled it with another free but in perhaps the turning point of the game referee Ciaran Mulligan issued a second yellow card to Drumhowan’s Liam Mc Guirk and as a result Drumhowan were forced to play the rest of the game with 14 men. Toome’s Frank Conolly kicked a free before half time to leave them ahead 0-6 to 0-5 at half time.
The level of scoring dropped for both teams in the second half with Drumhowan only managing two further points both from frees. Indeed Toome opened the scoring in the second half with county hurler Stephen Lambe getting his second point of the game. James Wilson then extended Toome’s lead before the water break. This proved his only score as five minutes before the end of normal time he suffered a serious ankle injury and after a break in play he had to be stretchered off to be replaced by Toome veteran Cormac Quinn. Despite 7 minutes of injury time Drumhowan couldn’t get the scores they required with both teams only scoring a point each to leave the full time score Toome 0 -10 Drumhowan 0-7
