Drumhowan GAA are sad to hear of the death of Mickey Mc Elroy of Carga who passed away peacefully this morning the 9th of December in Cavan Hospital. Mickey had been ill for a while but got to see Drumhowan win their 7th JFC in October on Clubber while in Cavan Hospital.
Mickey had been a hard working committee member down through the years. He was part of juvenile management when James and Enda were playing. For a number of years, he was development officer at the club and was also deeply involved when the 2nd pitch was being developed. Whenever there was hard graft to be done Mickey was the person to be called upon. On big match days in Drumhowan he would always be on call to park cars or whatever else needed to be done.
Mickey’s love for the club was passed down through his family. Both sons James and Enda played at all levels for the club, with James also representing the club at county level. His daughter Sharon was also club secretary and represented the club on a number of county sub committees while wife Betty and other daughter Melissa were loyal supporters, and jerseys could be often seen drying outside on the line.
At this time, we would like to offer our sympathy to Mickey’s family especially his wife Betty, daughters Sharon and Melissa, sons, James and Enda and his many relatives, friends & neighbours.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
