Club History

  • 1884 – GAA founded in Thurles
  • 1887 – GAA established in Co. Monaghan
  • 1906 – Monaghan win Ulster Title
  • 1907 – Monaghan win Ulster Title
  • 1910 – Drumhowan Geraldines affiliated at Junior level by Pete McMahon – two year period only
  • 1912 – Monaghan junior level discontinued
  • 1916 – Monaghan County Junior Board re-established
  • 1917 – Shean Fontenoys club affiliated by Peter Deery – sometimes referred to as ‘Dr Deery’s Team’ – for two year period only
  • 1918-1952 – No affiliated club in the Drumhowan locality, however, an unofficial team named Drumlane operated in the late 1930s. A number of local players also played with adjoining clubs such as Doohamlet, Blackhill, Creeve & Carrickatee during this period
  • 1951 – locals commence ‘kicking football’ in two separate ‘fields’ – the Rassan in Drumhowan and Micky McManus’ field in Cornahoe
  • 1952 – Eamon Ward printed 1000 tickets for a prize draw in aid of the new Drumhowan Club & the club play some challenge matches
  • 1953 – Drumhowan Geraldines affiliated with the Monaghan County Board.
  • 1956 – Tommy McArdle wins All Ireland Junior medal with Monaghan v London
  • 1956 – Tommy & John McArdle win MacRory Cup medals with St Macartan’s College v St Eunan’s 2-7 v 2-6
  • 1956 – Tommy McArdle wins Minor Championship medal with Ballybay
  • 1959 – Tommy & John McArdle on losing Monaghan team v Down – McKenna Cup Final 1-7 v 1-5
  • 1960 – Winner of Junior Football Championship (McCaldin Shield) by defeating Killanny 0-8 v 0-2
  • 1960 – Winner of Junior Football League (Dr Ward Cup) by defeating Tyholland 2-4 v 2-2

  • 1961 – Tommy & John McArdle win Ulster Junior Championship medals with Monaghan v Antrim 2-8 v 1-6
  • 1961 – Tommy & John McArdle on losing Monaghan team v Down – McKenna Cup Final 2-10 v 1-6
  • 1961 – Tommy McArdle selected for Ulster in Railway Cup Final defeat to Leinster

  • 1964 – Defeated by Scotstown in semi-final of Senior Championship on a score line of 2-3 v 1-7
  • 1964 – John McArdle appointed County Board Secretary (retains position until 1969)
  • 1965 – Defeated by Clontibret in semi-final of Owen Ward Cup (1964 competition) – 1-4 v 2-5
  • 1965 – Defeated by Clontibret in semi-final of Senior Championship – 0-5 v 1-10
  • 1966 –Defeated by Scotstown in quarterfinal of Senior Championship – 0-3 v 0-6
  • 1966 – Winner of Coughlan Cup (Monahan Harps Tournament) defeating Toome 2-3 v 1-3
  • 1966 – Drumhowan relegated from Senior
  • 1967 – Defeated by Castleblayney in final of U16 McNally Cup
  • 1968 – Winner of U16 Division 1 League (McNally Cup) – Ballybay players included
  • 1969 – Winner of Intermediate Football League Final (Hackett Cup) by defeating Latton 0-5 v 0-1
  • 1969 – Retain U16 McNally Cup by defeating ??
  • 1969 – Winner of U-16 Division 1 Championship (McMurray Cup)

 

  • 1970 – Monaghan senior county team tour to USA – Brendan Connolly & Packie Forde selected as players – team trainer is John McArdle
  • 1970 – Drumhowan promoted to Senior Grade Division 1
  • 1970 – Winner of Aghabog Tournament by defeating Aughnamullen
  • 1970 – Pat Duffy, Sean Mooney, Gerry Duffy, Gerry Finnegan & Seamus Deery win Minor Championship medals with Ballybay
  • 1972 – Drumhowan relegated to Intermediate Grade
  • 1973 – Drumhowan relegated to Junior Grade. Win Munitir Na Tire Cup
  • 1974 – Winner of Junior Football League Final (Dr Ward Cup) by defeating Doohamlet 1-5 v 0-6 after a replay (0-5 v 0-5)

  • 1985 – Official Opening of Park Mhic Eoin on 4 August – named after Mickey McKeown, a founder member and club treasurer for 25 years
