Universal Graphics JFC Group 2 Round 5
Drumhowan 0-10 Aughnamullen 1-5
Drumhowan finished the round robin section of the championship last Sunday the 23rd of August with a win over neighbours Aughnamullen at Páirc Mhic Eoin. As both sides had already qualified for the quarter finals both were minus a few regulars. Due to the covid regulations this game made history as it was the first gave ever to be streamed live from Drumhowan.
Drumhowan opened the game brightly and were awarded a penalty but this was missed by newcomer this year, Aodhán Brennan. Aughnamullen veteran Eddie Mc Ardle opened the scoring with a free after five minutes but Kieran Mooney replied to leave it all level after seven minutes. Chris Keenan put Aughnamullen ahead when he scored from a mark in the eleventh minute in what proved to be their last score of the half. Michéal Duffy left it all square just before the water break. In the second quarter scores were at a premium with two frees from Aiden Quinn and a point from play by Joseph Duffy who was starting his first championship game. Gerard Quinn also made his first championship start. This left the score at half time Drumhowan 0-5 Aughnamullen 0-2
The second half started like the first with an Eddie Mc Ardle free while top scored Aiden Quinn replied with his his only score from play. This duo combined again with frees to leave it Drumhowan 0-8, Aughnamullen 0-4 before a Kieran Duffy goal blew the game wide open and Drumhowan were coming under severe pressure but another Aiden Quinn free left two in it at the water break. The final quarter once again had scores at a premium with both teams finishing the game with fourteen men when Aughnamullen’s Alan Sheridan and Drumhowan’s JP O’ Neill both receiving second yellow cards in separate incidents.. Before the sendings off Aiden Quinn finished Drumhowan’s scoring for the day with his sixth free and in the remaining ten minutes Drumhowan were forced into some frantic defending with Eddie Mc Ardle scoring two frees in injury time to leave only the one in it but in the end missed a final free to ensure Scostown were the only team across all three championships to finish with four wins.
Both teams will have to improve this Sunday if they hope to advance to the semi finals with Drumhowan taking on Sean Mc Dermotts and Aughnamullen facing Aghabog. Both games will be live streamed due to the fact no supporters are allowed to go to the games. See the links below to purchase both games
