Universal Graphics JFC Group 1 Round 2

Aghabog 1- 5 Drumhowan 0-15

27/8/23

On a wet and miserable Sunday afternoon in Aghabog Drumhowan recorded their first win of the championshop season with a 7 point victory away from home in Group 1 of the Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship.

As the rain battered down, Drumhowan got off to a lightning start with points from James Mc Adam, Liam Mc Guirk, John Paul O’ Neill and Aodhan Brennan in the opening 5 minutes. Patrick Quinn added a fifth for the away side 2 minutes later and Aghabog found themselves with a mountain to climb before they had really settled into the game.

Quinn got his second a minute later, a mirror image of the first to dampen Aghabog spirits further, before adding a  third from the opposite side of the D to put his side 7 points ahead.

In the 16th minute, Aghabog finally got their first score, with a simple free, from their captain, Dermot Smyth. However they couldn’t capitalise on their  momentum and the next score would be for Drumhowan, a James Mc Adam point in the 25th minute. Mc Adam and Brennan added  further points to Drumhowan’s tally in injury time to make it 11 points to 1 at the break.

Drumhowan picked up where they left off in the second half. Caolan Reilly opened his account with a point 3 minutes in. Ciaran Duffy added another to Drumhowan’s tally 3 minutes later.

Paudie Gleeson got 2 points in quick succession, that sparked a comeback  for Aghabog, in the 45th minute. A James Mc Adam point point halted Aghabog’s momentum.

Another Gleeson free kept Aghabog ticking over on the scoreboard and Caolan Reilly added another Drumhowan score as they began to hold the ball in the closing stages.

Aghabog’s goal came, from  the left foot of Ciaran Logue, in the closing stages. Logue’s shot ricocheted off the post before nestling in the corner to give his side a lifeline, but they were too far back and Drumhowan ran out comprehensive 15 points to 1-5 winners.
