Drumhowan captured their 7th Junior Championship at a stormy Scotstown. The game was held up due to the MFC game going to extra time so it didn’t commence to 3.55
Gerard Quinn opened the scoring with a point in the 4th minute but Eire Óg opened their account shortly afterwards with a Conor Leonard point. At this stage Eire Óg’s Jamie Mc Carey missed a one on one goal chance thanks to an excellent save from Enda duffy. In the 10th minute Eire Óg goalkeeper James Morrow kicking a 48m free straight in front of the post. This proved to be their last score of the 1st half. Drumhowan continued to exert pressure but didn’t score again till the 14th minute when Aiden Quinn kicked his 1st point, He followed a minute later with another, this time an excellent score after side stepping a number of Eire Óg defenders. Another 5 minutes passed before Aiden scored his third of a day this time from a free. Scores were at a premium due to the high winds of storm Ashley with Killian Mc Adam and Aodhan Brennan kicking the remaining scores of the half to leave the half time score Drumhowan 0-6 Eire Óg 0-2
Aodhán Brennan opened the scoring in the 2nd half after he capitalised from an Eire Óg mistake to score the game’s first goal to leave 7 in it. The game got a little scrappy and it was another 7 minutes before goalkeeper James Morrow scored his 2nd point from a 45. Eire Óg then hit another free this time from a Michael Tierney free after Conor Curran received a black card. Kevin Mooney kicked his first point of the day to leave 6 in it after 12 minutes gone in the half. Eire Óg Sub Leon Mc Cabe then kicked the next 2 points to reduce the difference to 4. As the wind increased the rate of scoring greatly reduced and it was another 15 minutes and injury time before Tom Doherty opened his scoring to leave 5 in it. It felt as if was Drumhowan’s day but Eire Óg had other ideas with a point from Jamie Mc Carey and a goal from Cian Mc Aree within a minute to leave the minimum in it. However from the resulting kick out Drumhowan broke down the field and sub Jospeh Duffy scored Drumhowan’s 2nd goal with the last kick of the game to leave the full time score Drumhowan 2-8 Eire Óg 1-7. Before the presentation of the Liam Stirrat Cup Daragh Mc Elearney was announced as man of the match. Patrick Quinn then received the Liam Stirrat Cup, Drumhowan’s first time after receiving the Mc Caldin Shield twice and the Packie Boylan 4 times.
