U10 Tournament –  We ran our inaugural U10 tournament on Saturday morning last with eight clubs from Monaghan, Armagh and Cavan all taking part. The event was a major success with up to 120 children playing football over the morning in some eighteen well contested matches. The clubs were split into two groups of four with each club getting three group games. Such was the closeness of the scores and games that it took score differences to sort out the final positions in both sections. In the group stages Drumhowan had wins over Cremartin , Latton and Derrynoose. This left our boys playing Magheracloone in the semi final in what turned out a thrilling game. Magheracloone set the early pace and were the better team for most of the first half. However Drumhowan upped it and dominated from there to the finish to make the Cup Final.
In the other semi final Castleblayney had a win over Derrynoose to leave it a local derby final. In the Shield section Clontibret and Butlersbridge came through close semi finals  over Latton and Cremartin respectively to make it to the final where the Breffni boys just pipped a gallant Clontibret side at the end to finish as Shield winners. In the Cup Final Drumhowan took on Castleblayney and again it was close, nip and tuck early on as play went from end to end. However gradually Drumhowan got on top and took some excellent scores and whole hearted defending saw Drumhowan emerge winners over a never say die Blayney side.
Afterwards in the Centre when food had been served club chairman Martin Mc Elearney thanked everyone for their part in the day and then Co Board Children’s Officer John Mc Ardle presented medals to the four finalists ,the Shield to Butlersbridge and the Cup to Drumhowan captain Jonathan Lavelle. With Drumhowan having only one player aged 12 next season this side will essentially be our Under 12 team for the next two seasons. They no doubt will represent the club well as they are a very dedicated bunch.
Thanks – A big thanks goes out to everyone who played a part on Saturday last. To all the players who entertained the crowd and their clubs and coaches who put so much time and effort into coaching and for coming and taking part on the day. Thanks to all the stewards, helpers, shop workers, referees, umpires, supporters and especially to the ladies who worked in the kitchen and cooked, baked and served  food to over 200 people. Thanks to our CE workers who had the place looking well and all pitches set up and marked out. Thanks also to Stephen Drury Centra Ballybay who sponsored all the bread rolls and to everyone who donated at the gate. You can see photos of the day on the Drumhowan facebook page all expertly taken by Barry Tomany.
