All Ireland Scór na nÓg Final. – Last Saturday our Quiz team and Instrumental Group represented our Club and County in the All Ireland Final. The quiz team represented by Patrick Duffy, Finbar Brennan, Colm and Stephen Mc Mahon finished 4th out of 27 teams finishing 1 point behind Donegal in 3rd place. Later on in the afternoon the Instrumental Group of Conor Quinn, Finbar Brennan, Colm and Stephen Mc Mahon and Thomasina Mc Ginnity didn’t succeed in their attempt to win a recording breaking 3 in a row All Ireland Titles. They were pipped to the post by the Lixnaw, from Kerry. Thanks to one and all for the preparation and practice that was needed to get to that point.
Club Juvenile Presentation and Registration night will take place this Sunday 22nd February starting at 7pm where light refreshments will be served . We will have medals to present to last season’s successful under 12 and under 14 sides as well as our Scor winners and Drew Wylie will be in attendance . All underage players including under 6’s 8′s, 10′s, 12′s, 14′s, 16′s and 18′s must register and pay their club membership. All players and parents will be expected to turn up and indeed any new parents and players are also very welcome to attend. It is important to remember that all juvenile players must be registered to train or play any games to be covered under the GAA insurance scheme. We will also be accepting adult membership on the night and club treasurer John Reilly will be present and will gladly accept your annual Friends of Drumhowan subscription.
Reserve Football– will commence on the weekend of the 7/8th March. Drumhowan this year will play in Division 2A at 15 A Side. It will be played as a double league basis (home and away). The top team will advance to the final, with the second and third placed team advancing to a play off for the final. The winner of each league final will gain promotion. The bottom team in each division will be relegated. Drumhowan’s opposition will be 1Donaghmoyne 2Doohamlet 3Sean McDermotts 4EireOg 5Rockcorry.
Minor Football – St Patrick’s will play in Division 1 this and their opponents will be Donaghmoyne, Scotstown, Sean McDermotts, Carrickmacross, Clontibret, Monaghan Harps, Magheracloone & Truagh. They will play their home games in Druhowan this year. 1st game will be on the 7th of March.
Division 1 comprising of 9 teams will be played as a single league. Standings after these 9 rounds( 8 games) will then be used to split the league into 2 sections, with the top 5 teams competing in Div. 1A and the bottom 4 teams competing in Div. 1B (shield). Teams will then play each other in a single league with the top 2 teams advancing to the respective league finals.
The division 1 championship will be comprised of 9 teams, which will be played on a knock out basis. As this competition will consist of 9 teams, one tie in the preliminary round will be required. Teams who finish in the top 5, qualifying for division 1a, will advance to the championship quarter finals. By open draw, the preliminary round will consist of two teams which advanced to division 1B. The quarter final will subsequently contain 8 teams, five from Div. 1a, 2 teams from DIiv. 1b who received a bye and the winner of the preliminary round tie.
Quiz – Drumhowan Community Group will hold a quiz on Friday the 27th of February in the community centre. It will commence at 9pm and Stephen Duffy will be the quizmaster. It is a quiz for all the family so all are welcome. It doesn’t matter where you are from, come along for a good night’s fun. Tables only cost €20. Hot food served on the night.
Maroon and White Fight – Good luck to Barry Mc Guirk in the Maroon and White Fight night this Saturday night in the Four Seasons. Doors open at 7pm. 1st bout is at 7.30 At the time off writing his opponent is still not known.
Sympathy – is extended to the family of Lydia White (nee Ward) Dundalk who died after a short illness on Sunday and was buried yesterday Wednesday 18th of February in Kilcurry
