At a ceremony in the Four Seasons Hotel last Wednesday 27th November the 2019 nominations for the Club Volunteer and Appreciation Awards were announced . Following in the footsteps of Frank Connolly and Tommy Mc Ardle, Donal Mc Adam was announced as Drumhowan’s 2019 recipient . For his dedication, vision, intelligence and unrelenting work ethic in the service of Drumhowan, Donal McAdam would have been a worthy nominee for this award any year of the last twenty-five. As a player, he was highly accomplished and his free-taking ability was immaculate and contributed greatly to our championship wins in 1991 and 1993. But it was as a coach and manager that he achieved most, steering Drumhowan to victory in the Ulster Club Championship in 2008. Seeing the need to develop players from a very young age, he turned his attention to the underage structures of the club and took over as Coaching Officer in 2014. He worked with the youngsters to develop their basic skills and their spatial awareness to the highest level, resulting in a string of successes, including a Division 2 Double at Under 13 last year, and hitting a peak last June by bringing a Féile trophy to Monaghan for the first time since Scotstown in 2002. In administration his vision of the big picture is matched byhis attention to detail and his willingness to do the most menial tasks himself. He’s the engine of the Club, and the healthy state of the Club can largely be attributed to the hard-work and inspiration from Donal McAdam.
