Universal Graphics Junior Football Championship – Drumhowan 2-8 Blackhill 1-14
Drumhowan must go through the back door route once again as a sharper Blackhill team defeated them by a goal in Clontibret last Sunday the 14th of August.
Drumhowan opened the scoring with a Kieran Mooney point. However Blackhill weren’t long in replying with three points from Michael Geehan and Dermot Daly. Drumhowan didn’t score again till the 13 min when Mark Mc Cabe scored the first of his six frees. However Darren Woods replied within a minute with a goal to leave the score on the quarter hour score Drumhowan 0-2 Blackhill 1-4. With 2 minutes of normal time left in the first half Drumhowan were down by 5 but a cracking goal by Owen Quinn and another free by Mark Mc Cabe left only the minimum in it at half time with the score Drumhowan 1-5 Blackhill 1-6.
Blackhill open the 2nd half brightly scoring the first 3 points before sub Aidan Duffy got a point back in the 39th minute and Drumhowan’s 1st point from play since the 1st minute of the game. Shortly afterwards JP O Neill had to leave the field of play with a knee injury. Drumhowan had to wait another 11 minutes before another Mark Mc Cabe free and with 5 minutes of normal time left Blackhill led by 6. Mark Mc Cabe hit another free to leave five in it when 7 minutes was put on the board. Aidan Duffy got a goal back in the first minute of injury time to leave only 2 in it. However Mikey Geehan scored another point and tried as they may Drumhowan couldn’t get the goal that they needed. As a result Blackhill march onto the semi final while Drumhowan face the backdoor at the beginning of September.
