Eurotech JFL Rd 11 Drumhowan 1-13 Blackhill 2-9
Drumhowan finished off their league campaign with a win today in Páirc Mhic Eoin and in the process Blackhill suffered their first defeat of 2016.
Drumhowan opened the scoring with a well taken point by Kevin Mooney and were dominating the opening minutes of the game but Blackhill scored a goal with their first attack up the field. Drumhowan still controlled the game but were off target quite a lot and it took veteran Colm Lambe to steady the ship scoring 5 of Drumhowan’s first half points with the other coming from Ciaran Duffy to leave the half time score Drumhowan 0-7 Blackhill 1-2
Blackhill opened the second half scoring but that point was cancelled out by a Darren Duffy point.Blackhill then got back into the game to leave the score level at 1-5 to 0-8. Kevin Mooney put Drumhowan out in front again but Blackhill got more into the game and with 10 minutes left led by a point. After a stoppage in play Colm Lambe floated the ball into square from a line ball and Ciarán Duffy came running in to punch the ball into the roof of the net. In the four minutes that followed Drumhowan went 5 points ahead with 2 points from sub Michael Atkinson and Kieran Mooney chipping in with his first. At that stage it should have game over but a mistake in the defence led Blackhill in for a goal and another point left the bare minimum in it with a minute left in normal time. Despite some mistakes and nearly 4 minutes of injury time Drumhowan held out for the victory with the full time score reading Drumhowan 1-13 Blackhill 2-9
The two teams will meet again in 3 weeks in the championship. However the victory wasn’t good enough with other results not going their way and Drumhowan finished in 7th place in the league and as a result will play in the junior shield in the 2nd half of the league with the first game in that competition not until after the championship as they receive a bye in the first round.Team and Scorers :
