Last year the first All Ireland came to the Drumhowan club in it’s 60 year history with the Scór na nÓg Instrumental Group winning  the All Ireland. The club didn’t have to wait too long for the 2nd with the famous five from Tullycorbet securing a 2 a row for the Club in March. That with the club securing a 6th Junior Football Championship over near neighbours Blackhill in September were definitely the highlights in another successful year for the Drumhowan  club.

Junior League

The league was a lot less successful. Of the 18 games played there were only 8 victories. There were 6 loses and 4 draws. Not with standing that, the club were in contention until the last day of the season when a draw against Aghabog wasn’t enough to make the last 4. The management team for 2014 was Kevin Carragher, manager, Martin Woods, coach and selector Martin Mc Elearney.

Junior B’s

Time eventually caught up with the Junior Bs as they went the whole season without a victory. However they kept their two best performances for when their backs were up against it. They kept with Latton for most of the hour in the O Duffy Cup and in the last league game of the season not only did they field but came within a goal of beating the table toppers Castleblayney. Management this year were Brendan Quinn, Pat(red) Duffy and Séamus Duffy.

Minors

The Minors once again this year played under the St. Patrick’s Banner.  Management were Martin Duffy, Gavin Sheridan, Colm Duffy and Enda Monaghan. Playing in Division 1 with a team that was exclusively U17 they found the going tough and only won 1 game throughout the year losing to Truagh in the Championship.

U16s

The U16s this year were based in Drumhowan and played in Division 1 and performed to a good standard seeing that these boys played at Division 3 and 4 in 2012 when they were U14. The management in place were Niall Mc Adam, Tommy Mc Ardle, Cathal Hand and John Duffy.  In the league they played a total of 14 games winning 3, drawing 2 and losing 9, their best performances kept to the 2nd half of the season. In the championship they lost narrowly to Monaghan Harps who eventually went on to win the championship.

U14s

This year the U14s playing out of Division  3 found the going hard losing in the championship to Clontibret and only winning to Doohamlet in the league. That all changed come shield semi final time. It took 2 games to get over near neighbours Doohamlet. In the 1st game in Doohamlet an exciting draw was the final outcome. The full time score was Drumhowan 8 -19 Doohamlet 7 – 16. The replay took place in Drumhowan and in another enthralling game they emerged victorious on a scoreline  – Drumhowan 5 -13 Doohamlet 0-16. This lead to the shield final against Éire Óg . This time the manner of victory was even more exciting than the U12s the previous week as Drumhowan were behind the whole game and won in the last minute due to a Joseph Duffy goal. At half time the score was Drumhowan 2 – 6 Éire Óg 3- 9 and by the end of the 3rd quarter their lead had increased to 7 points. However 2 goals and 4 points in the last quarter meant Drumhowan won at the end. The full time score was Drumhowan 4 – 12 Eire Óg 3 – 14 Team and Scorers – Niall Markey, Caolán Reilly, Gerard Quinn, Daniel Tomany, Dara Mc Elearney, Patrick Quinn (0-3) Joseph Duffy(2-1) James Mc Adam (1-2) Cormac Duffy(1-1) Aodhán Brennan (0-2) Shay Treanor (0-3) Subs used Lee Treanor and Lorcan Halpin plus Philip Mc Shane, David Barry, Mark Tomany
Management Anthony Brennan, Seán Smyth and Barry Tomany

U12s

The U12s remained undefeated throughout the Season. Playing a total of 14 games between the spring league and Div 2 A they won 12 games and drew 2. In the Spring League Final they defeated Seán Mc Dermotts by 5. After defeating Aughnamullen in the League semi final the final opposition was Cremartin. Drumhowan made a shaky start to this final and at one stage Drumhowan were down by 5 point in the 1st third. However they pulled it back to only a 1 point deficit at half time thanks to 2 goals and a point from James Mc Adam, 2 points by Shay Treanor and 1 from Aodhán Brennan. That left the score after the 1st 20 Drumhowan 2- 4 Creamartin 2 – 5. In the middle 10 mins both teams played some exciting football. For the final 20 minutes Drumhowan came out a new side and played some exciting football. James Mc Adam doubled his tally by scoring another 2 goals and a point and Shay Treanor added another 3 points to his tally. Cremartin attempted a come back but due to some great defending by all defenders especially Gerard Quinn their efforts were thwarted. Aodhán Brennan added another 2 points one from a free and both Lorcan Halpin and Caolán Reilly added a point each. Cremartin still tried hard but they couldn’t get through thanks to a number of great saves by goalkeeper Mark Tomany.
The full time score finished Drumhowan 4 – 12 Cremartin 3 – 7
Team and Scorers were Mark Tomany, Gerard Quinn, Orlaith Brennan, Ruadhán Curran, Éimear Quinn, Aodhán Brennan 0-3, Lee Treanor, Shay Treanor 0-5, Lorcan Halpin 0-1 James Mc Adam 4 – 2 Lorna Mc Guirk Subs used Caolán Reilly 0 – 1 for Lee Treanor, Lee Treanor for Lorna Mc Guirk Others Used in middle period Conor Finnegan, Sinéad Duffy, Daire Sheridan, David Barry, Ciarán Keenan, Killian Mc Adam Tristan Duffy, Jason Clarke, Pete Mc Guirk, Tom Doherty, Jonathan Lavelle, Conor Curran, Tiernan Reilly.

U8-10

These two sides took part in all the Go Games Blitz ran by the County Board and also took part in a number of other tournaments and challenge games all season. The under 10 side also took part in the Indoor Blitzes held last January. Both these two squads showed good improvement all season and some now will move up to the Under 12 grade. These sides were coached by Brendan Treanor, Kevin Curran, Mark Duffy, Derek Barry, Aidan Doherty and Donal Mc Adam.  Last year an Indoor Winter Training Program in Ballybay Recreation Centre took place during the month of November. This was a great success with large numbers turning up each Saturday evening. As a result the program took place this November also.

U 6

The under 6 players this year were looked after by Catherine O Neill, Lorraine Maguire and Grainne Duffy. They trained each Monday evening to the end of September. They finished off their season with a tournament in Cootehill in early October where many of them made their debut in the blue and gold.
