AIB ULSTER CLUB JUNIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI FINAL.
An Port Mor 1-17
Drumhowan 0-8.
A more resilient An Port Mor ultimately romped to victory in this tough, hard-hitting and at times somewhat bad tempered Ulster club junior football championship semi-final that was played in wintry and greasy conditions in Brewster Park, Enniskillen, on Sunday afternoon last. This game essentially turned on a sending-off when An Port Mor were reduced to 14 players with the straight red card dismissal of midfielder Mark Curran two minutes into the second-half and a time when Drumhowan were ahead by a point after the sides had gone in level, 0-6 apiece, at the break and things looking promising. The sending-off gave Drumhowan a one-man advantage but it was also a decision that galvanised the Armagh men and they responded in such emphatic fashion that from there to the finish they turned the second-half into a veritable procession, reeling off an unanswered one goal and nine points between the third and 21st minutes to leave Drumhowan literally floundering in their wake. The one-way nature of the contest also had its impact in that a great degree of frustration crept into Drumhowan’s play as their game simply disintegrated and they finished the game with 12 players following the dismissal of Dermot Mooney, second yellow in the 19th minute of the second half, David Millar in the 26th minute and Ciaran McElroy a minute from the end, both on straight red cards but by then it was all over as a contest.
