Club Notes 12/9/17

Eurotech Junior Football League – over the past week the Seniors took on the top two in the league. While both games ended in defeat there were spells of good play in both  so hopefully victory will be obtained in some of the 4 remaining games. The next game is scheduled for Sunday 24th September away to Éire óg.  Please see match reports below

Drumhowan 1-11 Clones 0-18 -Clones made the mid week trip to Páirc Mhic Eoin last Wednesday 6th of September . There was  slow start to the game  with Clones racing ahead and after the first quarter were 6 – 2 ahead with  Drumhowan scores coming from 2 frees off the boot of Ciaran Duffy.  In the final 10 minutes of the first half Clones added a further 2 points while Ciaran Duffy kicked 2 45s and Kieran Mooney adding Drumhowan’s sole point from play in the first 30 minutes. This left the west Monaghan visitors 3 points ahead when referee Patrick Caulfield blew the half time whistle.Clones started the second half where they left off, kicking 4 unanswered  points before Drumhowan sprung into action with points from Ciaran Duffy, Aiden Quinn  and a free from sub  Colm Lambe. This left 5 points in it  when Colm Lambe pounced to score a goal to leave only  2 points  between the teams at the three quarter mark. Points were  exchanged  before a Colm Lambe free left the minimum in it with only 3 minutes left of normal time. However Clones kicked 2 points before Drumhowan missed a goal opportunity to level the game. Drumhowan 2-7 Sean Mc Dermotts 3-13 After 2nd place Clones visiting Páirc Mhic Eoin last Wednesday it was the turn of table topping and undefeated Sean Mc Dermotts  to visit on Saturday 9th of September. The game started slowly and after 20 minutes Seans had 4 points on the board  and it wasn’t until the 25 minute when Owen Quinn kicked  Drumhowan’s solitary point of the half.  Seans then upped a gear  to score another 4 points before the half time whistle to leave the half time score Drumhowan 0-1 Sean Mc Dermotts 0-8 Drumhowan opened the 2nd half brightly with Colm Lambe scoring a  goal and a point within seconds of the restart but Seans regained their composure to kick three unanswered point to leave 6 points in it after 10 minutes. Drumhowan then had their best spell of the game scoring 1-2 with the goal coming from Darren Duffy  to leave the bare minimum in it with 12 minutes left.  However Seans scored a goal almost immediately  before Darren Duffy replied with a point  with less than 10 minutes to go. Gerry’s Prepared Veg U12 Division 2   Aghabog 1-11 Drumhowan 1-9   The  U12s went under by two points to Aghabog on the final game of the round robin on Saturday last the 9th of September. It was a keenly contested game with Drumhowan on top in the first half and the visitors dominating the second half. We now play Truagh in the final which has been provisionally fixed for Saturday 23rd September. Training continues on Monday and Thursday evenings at 6.45pm.
U10s –  The U10s take part in a tournament in Cremartin on this coming Saturday morning. Details  regarding times will be sent out later in the week.
U8 –  We also hosted Aghabog in an under 8 game on Saturday last. Both teams give it their all in tough conditions. Big thanks to Tara Quinn and Sean Smith who looked after the squad on the day and thanks to Aghabog for the game. There are a good selection of photos of both games on the club facebook page thanks to Barry Tomany.
U10  Dan Markey Tournament –  Our own tournament will take place on Saturday 30th September at 10.30am. Help will be needed both in the kitchen and on the pitches on the day.
Under 6  – Training for this group finished up on Monday evening. Thanks to all the players for all their effort and attendance all season. Also big thanks to Tara Quinn who coached this panel all season and to various people who helped her on occasions. Remember to keep practicing the basic kicking and catching skills at home over the winter months.
Sponsorship –  The Under 12 panel all received new kit bags from Gerry’s Takeaway and Prepared Veg on Saturday in advance of the upcoming final. The club wish to thank Gerry and Deirdre Mc Elroy for their generosity.
Circuit Classes  – have commenced in the community centre. They are taking place on Mondays and Thursdays from  7.30pm.  All levels of fitness catered for.  For those  who want that little bit more there is also the  RT24 class on Thursdays at 8.30pm.  RT24 is a HITT workout, using resistance (weight plates) and your own body weight to increase power ,strength and burn fat !! Underage finals this Saturday –   Páirc Mhic Eoin will host three underage finals this Saturday so help stewarding  and in the kitchen  will be needed from  10.15am.  – 1.15  and 1.15 to 4.15 Please contact Donal to  say when you are available.
